PAL Day 2013

This is my second year to participate in Plant A Letterbox Day.  Last year Indiana had 2 boxes on PAL Day, they were both here in Evansville, and I planted one of them.  This year Indiana had 10 and I planted 6.  I planted one the day before and listed it on the actual day but the others I waited until the day to plant.

The box I planted the day before PAL Day was at a local library.  They are celebrating their 100th birthday this year and planted a box in every branch.  We have a letterbox at one of the other libraries in town that looks just like this one.  So we had to plant one here too.  It is in the park outside the library.  My kids really enjoyed playing on the playground here.

This creek bed is at Ferdinand State Forest.  We camped here for Spring Break and decided then that we would plant some boxes here for PAL Day. I planted a 4 part series from stamps that we carved last year for a Phineas and Ferb LTC swap.  I hope people enjoy the trail and our stamps.

These photos were taken at Hemlock Cliffs in Crawford Co, Indiana.  We drive by a sign for the cliffs several times a year while visiting family in the area but I had never stopped to check them out.  It was beautiful and I will have to bring my husband and kids back to see it sometime.

Summer Hitchhikers

I am in a Hitchhiker Hustle tracker.  You carve up a hitchhiker, make 9 LTCs, and send both off to the host.  You get one of all the LTCs and a different hitchhiker.  I decided to make a hitchhiker series and carve up 4 seashell stamps.  I will send one off for the tracker, two others will go to a hostel in Washington, and the last one will go in my hostel.

300th Find

Me (with pink eye) and Lil Ewok at my 300th find.

I found my 300th box today!  It really took me long time to get here because a lot of the boxes we have looked for lately were older and missing.  I did it!  Woo hoo :D

Mother's Day 2013

We go camping every year for Mother's Day.  I went on my first camping trip when I was a month old because I was born in April and we camping in May for Mother's Day.

This year we were at Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell, Ind.  We planted a box there last June and checked on it and we planted a box there this weekend.  It was a beautiful weekend to be camping.  It rained just a little on Saturday but we had fun in the village, hiking, and the kids loved playing in the creek at the campground.

Spillway on trail 5.

There were lots of wildflowers blooming this weekend.

This water flows from a cave and is very cold!

Double Sided Stamp

In October we attended the event, Sandstones in Time in Cannelton, In.  We had a good time and we won a door prize.  It was a basket full of letterboxing goodies and one of the items was some MasterCarve carving block.  It is 3/4 of an inch thick and I have been thinking about using it for a double sided stamp.

The stuff is extremely soft!  I opened the package when we got to look it over and then I just tossed it in the drawer with a bunch of other stuff.  When I went to carve on it, it was dented in some spots.  Now I know to store it better.

For my first double sided stamp I carved images from my favorite band.  My husband got me their latest CD for my birthday and we have been listening to it nonstop.  I made LTCs and I just recently hid it.  I have another double stamp idea but it will be a while before I work on it.

Making 200 Stamps

I am going to help Brownie Girl Scouts earn their Letterboxing Badge at Day Camp this summer.  I have already received many wonderful stamp donations, made logbooks, cooties, and more.

On the last day of camp the girls trade SWAPS (Special Watchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere).  I have decided to make stamp SWAPS for every girl at camp.  That's 200 girls!

I have already started and they are coming along well.  I timed myself the other day and it took 6 minutes to carve one and I made 10 in two days.  I should get a little faster each time. I'm going to knock these puppies out in no time!
