Back to School Again

The princess on her 1st day of prek.
I started this blog last year when my kids went back to school.  I wanted to talk about our letterboxing adventures, show off LTCs, stamps, and whatnot.  I am surprised that I made 75 posts in a year and I have a few people who actually read it.  Here's to another fun year of blogging :)

Nashville Event

Kids at the Jellystone campground
Over the weekend we went down to Nashville, Tn and attended a mini meet.  We drove down Friday night and camped at the Jellystone campground.  On Saturday we spend most of the day at the zoo and swam a little at the campground.  That evening was the event.

This was our first event of the year and I was real excited to go.  It was in a room inside a restaurant.  We exchanged, passed around table tops, personal travelers, and what not.  We also talked and ate.  My kids always end up getting more stamps than me.  I guess I have to take care of the baby and that slows me down.

After the event we went back to the campground and swam a little more.  The next morning we got up and tore down camp in record time.  While we were there we looked for 6 letterboxes but we found 3 and a hitchhiker.

We had a lot of drama on the way home.  Just before the Kentucky state line there was road construction and traffic was at a crawl for a long time.  Then we missed our exit and didn't realize it for a while.  We ended up going an hour out of our way.  Once we finally got going the right direction we ran out of gas.  The 4 kids and I stayed at the car and my husband took off walking.  Just before we couldn't see him any longer it looked like someone picked him up.  Thankfully they did and he was back about 30 minutes later.

All in all it was a pretty good trip.  Last year, two local ladies and I put on a "big" event.  But this year I am not able to get a hold of them :(  I think I am going to put on a mini meet event instead of tackling a big one alone.  We have a few new boxers in our area and it would be nice to meet them.

Goodbye Stamps

My Passport of the States stamps.
Recently someone posted on AQ that they wanted to get stamps from every state.  Last summer someone did this and Indiana was snatched up right away and I ended up making a stamp & LTC for Kentucky.  I live just across the state line.

But this time I got Indiana, woo hoo.  My stamp is called "Amber Waves of Grain."  I liked how it turned out and I just had to make an LTC with it.  My son, R2-D2, liked the torn paper so much that he said it is the best card I ever made.  I'm not sure about that but I am happy with it.

The people collecting the stamps asked if I would make a Kentucky one too and I said yes.  The state bird of Kentucky (and Indiana, Ohio, etc) is the cardinal.  So that is what I carved up for that one.  I dropped them in the mail today.  Goodbye stamps :)

Boxing at Angel Mounds

Today the kids and I letterboxed at Angel Mounds.  All together there are about 6 boxes here.  We had searched for one before and could not find it.  We looked again today because we were right there and still did not see it.  When we got home we saw that the box had been retired.

Then we looked for a box listed on LbNA.  It was planted in June of 2008.  It was found twice in 2008 and when looking online it has not been attempted since.  We found it!  The box was full of water and so were the baggies.  The log was damp but still stampable.  We replaced the bags and plan to go back and replace the box.

Trail head west of Angel Mounds
Just west of the mounds are miles of trails.  There are supposed to be 4 boxes here.  One had been missing for a long time and the planter just "retired" the other 2 in the series.  This person hadn't letterboxed in a while so I doubt that she actually went out and got the other 2.  We had tried looking for these before with no luck.  There are so many trails there we get lost really easily.  This time I even printed off a map and we still wandered around for hours and found nothing.

While we were out we were looking for good and *easy to find* hiding spot for a box.  I recently carved a stamp for the LTC tracker, "Childhood Plans: When I grow up I wanna be..."  For a while I wanted to be Indiana Jones.  Since Indy was an archaeologist I decided to hide the stamp at our local archaeological site (Angel Mounds).  It should be ready for finders soon.

PS- Today was a disappointing mail day.  We are waiting on a Postal and I thought it would come today, it did not.  I got my LTCs back from Marjorie's Potpourri and we already had 3 of the 5 cards :(
