Boxing on the river

Evansville Riverfront w/ barge going up the Ohio
Today a seasoned letterboxer planted a new box down on the river.  The weather was beautiful and we were going to be out running errands so we went for it.  But we could not find it.  There used to be another box in this exact location and we couldn't find it the first time either.

We searched and searched in the bushes with no luck.  I thought maybe someone beat us to it and they were off somewhere stamping in.  So we hung out on a nearby bench playing "I Spy" for about 10 minutes.  Then we went to check again and found nothing.  I guess we will try again another day.  At this rate we may never get 300 finds :/

Camping & Carving

Kids carving
We camp a lot with my parents and my nieces.  When we are all together we letterbox together.  My parents work a lot a don't have time to letterbox on their own but they all went with us in the fall to our event, Peace Love & Harmonie at Harmonie State Park.  There was a raffle and my niece got some carving tools.  We kind of forgot about them until she recently starting asking me to teach her how to carve.  I told her that we were all going camping soon and we should do it then.  We were camping at Harmonie and we already have all of the boxes planted there.

Our new tent :)

The weather was beautiful so we hiked some and carved some.  My family just got a new tent because the zipper doors broke on our old tent the last time we used it.  It was six years old and we wore it out!  The kids also rode bikes, played on the playground, and hung out at the Nature Center.  We tired to fly kites but it was not windy enough.  We always stop and get an ice cream on our way back to Evansville.  It was a very nice weekend.

Plant Problems

I carved a stamp and made LTCs with it and I wanted to plant it.  A few days ago I went out and found a great spot to hide it.  I went home, made the logbook, hitchhiker, and got everything ready to go. We weren't doing anything today and the weather was looking nice so we tried to plant this morning.  I typed up the clues, posted them on the site, and took off to hide the box.  I thought that it would only take me 10 minutes to get there and no one would even go looking for it today anyhow.

We gather everything up and head off to plant the box.  We pull up and a guy is there cutting the grass!  I drove around for a little bit, came back, and he was still cutting.  This is a small rural cemetery and it would look really odd if we ran up to the tree and ran back to our car.  We go home, change the clue to unavailable, and eat lunch.  After a little while we try again.  This time the coast is clear.  We plant the box and head home.

I come home to change the clue back to active and my computer locks up.  I restarted it and now everything is fine.  That was such a major pain in the rear.

Quilted LTC

I recently participated in the Unique Materials LTC swap and this is my card. I originally was going to do something completely different.  My plan was to make a spring meadow scene and quilt around butterflies, flowers, and grass.  But I had a hard time getting the colors to look right.  So I decided to just make it really simple.  This is a stamp that I made for "Thank You" LTCs and I used it for this card too.

I struggled with the original image and the final edge.  I wanted to finish it like a normal quilt but the card would have been too big or the edging would have covered up part of the stamp image.  So I had some green thread that changed shades and I thought it would look nice around the edge.  I really enjoyed making the card and I think it look great too :)

Birthday Boxing

Today is my birthday and of course I wanted to spend it letterboxing.  We looked for 14 but only found 6 :(  One of the ones we did find was a 5 year old box that had not been found in the past two years.  But I know at least one person had looked for it.  It was really cool to find this older box by one of our letterboxers who doesn't box anymore.

Another box that we looked for was really hard to get to.  When it was planted you just drove across the highway to it.  But now that road is an interstate and we had to go out and around and all over to get there.  Then we arrived at the cemetery and found the box easily but it had been burned.  That whole area was burned.  I don't know if there was a wildfire or if they burned it so they would not have to mow the grass.  It was weird.

We had a fun day of letterboxing and I only need to find 6 more to reach 300!

Spring Break 2013

Exploring the trails at Ferdinand State Forest, In

For about a year my husband has been saying that we should go camping for a whole week.  So for Spring Break we camped for 4 days/3 nights at Ferdinand State Forest.  I have been thinking about planting a series here for PAL Day so it was a good opportunity to check out the trails and look for hiding spots.  We hiked a 3 mile loop but once we were done I decided that for the series it would be better to do the trail backward.

Since we were away from home we did some letterboxing too.  We got two boxes in Jasper, one in Ireland, and one in Holland.  We also picked up a HH that is trying to get back to California.
